FRESH DELICIOUS FARM PRODUCE GROWN WITH CARE

THE VEGETABLE PATCH

Last year, we grew a range of the basic vegetables ie. potatoes, onions, carrots and seasonal treats such as sweetcorn.

This season's vegetables will be classed by the Soil Association as organic. This will be the first year where everything we grow on the farm will be truly organic.

A selection of fresh seasonal vegetables will be available for sale at the farm from most times of the year. We can, if you prefer (conditions apply), deliver your vegetables to your door (during June-Febuary many of the items will be harvested on the day of delivery). From time to time we supplement our range of vegetables with produce purchased from other local organic producers. By sourcing organic produce from other local businesses we aim this year to be able to supply organic salad crops such as lettuce (various), tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers (chilli and sweet) and aubergine.

The list of vegetables we aim to plant this year include:

Aubergine
Beetroot
Broad Beans
Carrots
Courgettes (green and yellow varieties)
Cucumber
Fennel
French Beans (green, purple and yellow varieties)
Leeks
Lettuce

Vegetables in early May 1 This is part of our vegetable area. In the middle of the picture are our Orla first early potatoes, recent ridged to protect the tubers from going green.
This picture was taken 16/06/2006. You may notice the small pipe in front of each row, this is T-Tape used to irrigate the crop. By using trickle irrigation we significantly reduce the amount of water used and helps to reduce the risk of blight (a plant disease).
Vegetables in early May 2 The white netting is special mesh to protect our carrots from carrot fly. Non-organic carrots are routinely sprayed using pesticides which can be harmful to humans if pesticide residues within the carrot crop are too high. Read this document for further information.
